First Aid Training

Accidents happen at work. What can you do about them; well not a lot because if you could they wouldn't happen. Each day would be perfect. Everyone would be perfect. But people cut themselves, they fall, incur muscle tears, and they break bones. This is just a short history of what can happen or brief list of different injuries which can and do happen in the labor market. It also depends on the occupation. A job involving manual labor is where most injuries occur. But retail has its fair share also because the customer moves in and out of the work place, and there are usually a lot of employees at one location.

And because all of these injuries can happen at work, it is important that the company has a First Aid Training plan in place and there are staff trained in first aid.

The advantages

There are several benefits to the employees who get first aid training. First of all, you have people on hand to intervene in emergency situations. Secondly, employees can tend the wounds of someone injured on the property. This can include bandaging a wound in a sanitary manner, may lead to a sprain or a break until emergency care is delivered, and the administration CPR when it is needed. There have been cases in which lives were saved, because there are employees who have first aid training.

What else is great is the fact that a person may be looked after, until an ambulance arrives, or until they are able to obtain medical assistance.

In the retail environment, it is particularly advantageous that first aid training is given to train employees. Employees and customers will inevitably be injured from time to time. Seemingly innocent work practices can lead to ugly and even life threatening injuries. The employee may be cut with a box cutter or it may fall from a ladder. Customers can slip and fall on spilled substances or rainwater. There are also times in which a customer may have a health condition and they fainted, or they have a weak moment while shopping. Without trained staff and the benefits of first aid training, these situations can be even harder.

First aid training programs

If you're wondering how you can be trained in first aid, find programs in your community. There are some employers who now bring in the first qualified ASID instructors to train their staff in first aid, or else learn on your own.

But why would you spend your time training in first aid when others in your company do not?

Well, the answer to this question is simple - you increase your value to the company. If you ever decide to change jobs, this is something that you can add to your application. You increase your chances with the job application. You can also ask for an increase in the amount of the payment you receive. This makes the first-aid courses in your community very much worth the time and the money. You may find that it is one of the best moves that you make for your career.

Using your skills

After you finish your training in first aid, it will come to pass that your skills will be called upon. Many hope that they will not be, but know that you do something valuable - helping others in time of need. You could save someones life, and if you do, they will always be grateful for what you have done for them. You will be glad that you were there to help them if they needed help.
